ROK Cup Italy 2023 - Round 1 race report
Not having driven since early December, I find myself starting a season in a new category against a very strong field.
I qualified in P20 and was struggling with driving the kart. We soon found out why…
The racing was fun but I was having a real hard time taking right turns. The team couldn’t explain it other than by thinking that the front left tire was defective. So, we took the gamble to change that tire for the second race instead of the usual rear tire. And that changed everything.
I really had a point to prove for the second race and got to a very good start. From the moment the lights went out to where the start line was, I gained 5 positions! I then made a small mistake on the second lap that costed me 2 places but the fight was on and managed to climb to P16, posting a personal best lap which was only 2/10s slower than the best lap of the race.
This result shows me that I have a lot to learn but that my pace is fairly close to the best. I just need more time on the track to build the muscle memory and automatisms.
As usual, I want to thank my team, Ferrara Kart, my mechanic and friend, Antonio Grillo Reguzzi, my engine provider, Kartissimo By Andreoli Renato, and CRG Factory for the chassis.
A big thank you too to my sponsors, Edilceramic SA, ACS Neuchâtel, Christophe Hurni (Sport-Promotions.ch), Garage ROBERT SA, Restaurant La Cantine and the Sports and Solidarity Foundation.
